Omi (pronounced oh-me) the national recording artist, will perform his summer smash hit “Cheerleader” & new song “Hula Hoop”. He’ll do so alongside the Houston Texans Cheerleaders, as well as breast cancer survivors.
Those survivors will have their biggest “cheerleaders” with them as well: their family and friends who helped them in their cancer battle. There will be 20 breast cancer survivors dancing with the cheerleaders. Each survivor has a special “cheerleader” of their own, who stood by them and supported them during their respective battles with the disease. Their dance will honor those special people in their lives.
For Billie Froggatt of Porter, Texas, her husband and two daughters were the “cheerleaders” in her fight against breast cancer.
“They never let me give up and encouraged me to fight the battle of my life,” Froggatt said.
Froggatt and the other 19 survivors went through a practice on Monday Night at the Houston Methodist Training Center. Afterwards, they were treated to a dinner at Pappasito’s, and were surprised by quarterback Ryan Mallett. It was meaningful to them, and meaningful to Mallett as well.
“That was a lot of fun,” Mallett said. “They weren’t expecting it, that’s for sure. I thought I was going to get tackled harder than the game. We had a good time.”
One of Mallett’s grandmothers is a breast cancer survivor, so raising awareness about the disease is something he explained “holds close to my heart”.
Cindy Mixon of Lake Jackson is also excited about the upcoming performance, and can’t wait to take in the game and dance at the half.
“Words cannot express the emotions that are going through me at this time,” Mixon said. “It’s great to be able to do this and to give hope to others who are going through this journey that they too are survivors!”
Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard will lead the Texans out of the tunnel as the Homefield Advantage Team Captain.
Tommy Lee Sparta fans are left disappointed after the deejay announced that he was barred from performing on Reggae Sumfest by the police high command.
The dancehall star made the announcement via social media, telling his fans that he will be taking legal action.
“To my loyal fans and friends! I regret to inform you that I will not be performing at Reggae Sumfest tonight because the police high command has refused me permission on stage! This act is in breach of The Charter of Rights and Constitution of Jamaica,” Tommy Lee said. “How can the police prevent a citizen from engaging in legitimate employment? My attorney will be filing action in the Supreme Court for financial compensation. I was ready to explode tonight.”
Dancehall artiste Capleton is ready to blaze the Reggae Sumfest stage at Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex, Montego Bay, next Thursday night, after being absent from the show for six years.
The ‘Fire man’ has a large catalogue of hits such as Jah Jah City, Or Wah, Toppa Tings and Baby Don’t Cry No More and St Mary Me Come From. He has promised to deliver a stellar performance, high energy and positivity.
“It’s been six years since I’ve blazed the Sumfest stage, so this year I’m coming full force. Capleton is on a mission of uplifting the people so I’ll be sending positive messages through my music,” he said.
Johnny Gourzong, executive director, Summerfest Productions, is happy to have Capleton on the show.
“As a truly Jamaican event, Reggae Sumfest would not be complete without Capleton, who has contributed so much to the development of the music over the years,” Gourzong said.
“Everyone is anticipating my return to the Sumfest festival, as always I will deliver. My fans will be singing, word for word, to my hit singles and catching on to the new lyrics. I’m currently working on my new album and I’ll be sharing tracks from it,” he said.
Under the theme ‘Dancehall Explosion’, Thursday night at Reggae Sumfest will also have performances by Lady Saw, Spice, Ishawna, I-Octane, Konshens, Gully Bop, Aidonia and Ding Dong.
New York City/Jamaica – Morgan Heritage, The Royal Family of Reggae, have just announced their upcoming “Catch A Fire” Tour” with Damian Marley, Stephen Marley, and Tarrus Riley, along with special guests, Jo Mersa Marley and Black Am I. The tour will kick off August 29th in Philly and wrap up September 27th in LA.
Both the Morgan and Marley reggae dynasties are thrilled to finally be on tour together. “The Marley’s and Morgan’s are more than just childhood friends. We are both 2nd generation musicians carrying on our father’s legacies. The Catch A Fire tour is a historic moment for both families because as family our bond goes beyond blood, it’s etched into our souls with the fire. We always spoke of the day when Marley and Morgan would tour together sharing the same stage night in and night out. Well now the time has come and we could not be more joyful to see this dream become a reality.”

The sensational roots reggae quintet, which comprises siblings Peetah Morgan (vocals), Una Morgan (keyboard/vocals), Gramps Morgan (keyboard/vocals), Lukes Morgan (rhythm guitar) and Mr. Mojo Morgan (percussion/vocals), is undoubtedly one of contemporary reggae’s most powerful forces on the global stage. Guided by sheer acumen and a passionate desire to make their already rich musical legacy even more impactful, Morgan Heritage, after much deliberation and contemplation, triumphantly delivers their latest album exclusively on their very own label CTBC (Cool To Be Conscious) Music Group.
